Frequently asked questions
- 01
Yes. In most cases, Coralyte™ and OleoSorb® media can be installed directly into existing treatment systems without major modification, reducing capital costs and minimizing operational downtime. In many applications, the media can be installed directly into existing pressure vessels, gravity filters, media beds, polishing systems, stormwater treatment units, tote systems, or custom containment structures already in operation.
Because Coralyte™ media is lightweight, highly porous, and engineered for high surface area and adsorption performance, it can often replace or supplement conventional media such as activated carbon, sand, organoclay, or other absorbent materials without requiring complete system replacement.
This allows facilities to upgrade treatment performance while reducing capital costs and minimizing operational downtime.
Existing infrastructure applications may include:
Industrial wastewater treatment systems
Stormwater filtration systems
Mining water treatment infrastructure
Oil-water separation systems
Phosphorus and metals removal systems
Petrochemical and refinery treatment units
Municipal and commercial polishing systems
Passive treatment systems and containment booms
Coral Innovations also works with customers to evaluate hydraulic loading, contact time, flow distribution, and media compatibility to help optimize retrofit performance within existing equipment and operating conditions.
In many cases, retrofitting existing infrastructure with Coralyte™ media provides a faster and more cost-effective path to improving water quality, contaminant removal, and regulatory compliance compared to building entirely new treatment systems.

Coral Innovations' technology is used across mining, oil and gas, industrial manufacturing, municipal wastewater treatment, stormwater remediation, agriculture, marine operations, petrochemical processing, transportation facilities, and power generation.
Coral Innovations’ technology provides significant benefits across industries that face challenges with water contamination, resource recovery, stormwater compliance, oil capture, and dissolved metals removal. The Coralyte™ media platform is designed to address complex treatment applications while reducing operational costs, infrastructure requirements, and environmental impact. The OleoSorb® media platform is designed for bulk and trace oils and organics removal in applications ranging from spill response remediation to trace oils filtration offering better performance, life span, and reusability than current market solutions.
Industries that benefit most from Coral Innovations’ technology include:
Mining and mineral processing
Oil & Gas production and refining
Industrial manufacturing
Stormwater and environmental remediation
Municipal and industrial wastewater treatment
Petrochemical and chemical processing
Transportation and rail facilities
Marine and port operations
Agriculture and nutrient management
Power generation and energy infrastructure
In the mining industry, Coral Innovations’ technology can support dissolved metals removal, organic recovery, and water reuse applications while helping reduce chemical consumption and sludge generation.
For oil and gas operations, Coralyte™ media is highly effective for hydrocarbon capture, sheen removal, produced water polishing, and stormwater treatment applications where traditional absorbents may struggle with efficiency or reusability.
Municipal and industrial water treatment facilities benefit from improved removal of phosphorus, metals, oils, and other contaminants while utilizing compact systems that can often integrate into existing infrastructure.
Industrial manufacturers and processing facilities use Coral Innovations’ technology to improve discharge compliance, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance environmental performance in challenging wastewater streams.
The adaptability of Coral Innovations’ media and treatment systems allows solutions to be tailored for both passive and active treatment applications across a wide range of flow rates, contaminant profiles, and operating environments.

Yes. Coral products can help ensure discharge compliance reducing fines and operating costs. May existing treatment technologies are good at bulk removal but struggle to treat trace contaminants to appropriate discharge levels. Coral Innovations media is specifically designed to passively reduce target pollutant concentrations in waste water down to permissible or non-detect limits ensuring compliance and reducing fines and operating expenses.
